Chiefs extend Travis Kelce’s contract
The Kansas City Chiefs extended Travis Kelce’s contract on Monday, keeping the star tight end in Western Missouri for at least two more seasons.
News of Kelce’s extension was first broken by NFL insider Ian Rapoport on Twitter:
This move will ensure that Patrick Mahomes’ favorite target remains on the field through the next few years of the Chiefs’ budding dynasty and dispels any rumors about Kelce’s potential retirement.
Few players in the NFL make more of an impact on their team than Kelce, who has become one of Kansas City’s most beloved sporting icons. A three-time champion, the All-Pro pass catcher figures to play a key role in the Chiefs’ effort to secure Kansas City a third-consecutive Super Bowl title next season.
No more Champagne Problems: The #Chiefs and All-Pro and Pro Bowl TE Travis Kelce have agreed to terms on a new 2-year contract extension to make him the NFL’s highest-paid tight end, sources say.

Chiefs fans on social media sites were thrilled to see that general manager Brett Veach got a deal done with Kelce.
Check out some of Twitter’s top reactions to Kelce’s extension:
Congrats Trav!! More than well deserved!
For KC fans: Let’s not read into years/ages. Hopefully he got a lot of $$ up front for everything he’s done for this franchise, on AND off the field. He’s on his own timeline of when/how things end. Let’s appreciate him while we still can https://t.co/rxo706GgpN

This would take Travis Kelce’s through 2027 and his age 38 season. I’m interested to see how the two extra years are added for cap purposes and if there are any voided years. https://t.co/fyuq1e5JqN

So freaking well deserved. Always been a team player. The best TE in the league and remained underpaid to stay a Chief. Finally gets paid as the best TE in the league. Oh and 2 more years??? LFG TRAV!!! 🙌 https://t.co/bj1flD2MAu

Beyond time he’s highest paid TE, because he is absolutely the greatest TE in NFL! As far as I’m concerned – greatest in Chiefs & NFL history! I don’t care if you think others are greater in history, he’s the greatest in *my* history by *my* standards! To each their own.😁❤️💛 https://t.co/AMYRdXaoMJ

Can we also talk about the creative use of a Taylor song in this announcement post? Well done, Mr. Rapoport. 😉 https://t.co/wEbrJTx1mJ

Kelce was set to make $13M this year and $17.25M next year. This extension should keep him under contract through 2027 and whatever new money he received pushed him above $17M APY. https://t.co/hpPhBzAO4Z
