Chiefs waive TE Matt Bushman from IR with injury settlement – Chiefs Wire

After waiving him with an injury designation during 53-man roster cuts, Chiefs TE Matt Bushman reverted to the team’s injured reserve list. Now, the Chiefs have waived Bushman from injured reserve with an injury settlement according to the NFL’s daily personnel notice.
Bushman was one of the stars of the Chiefs’ final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. He led the team with 73 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions. On his third and final catch of the evening, Bushman fractured his clavicle, ending what was an impressive performance on a very sour note.
The team’s decision to waive Bushman from injured reserve could open up the possibility of his return in the future. Should he clear waivers, he could be re-signed to either the 53-man roster or the practice squad in Kansas City once he’s healthy. The Chiefs have done this in the past before with WR Gehrig Dieter.
It’s unclear how many games Bushman’s injury settlement will cover, but we can assume a minimum of six weeks given his injury. This move should also save the Chiefs around $300K against the salary cap.
