The Kansas City Chiefs had until Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. local time to get their roster trimmed down to 53 players, and the team officially settled on an initial group to beat the buzzer at the deadline. Kansas City's original decisions included surprises such as carrying three quarterbacks, four running backs and five wide receivers. Nevertheless, this year's depth chart projects to be one of the deepest across the board in the Patrick Mahomes era.

Patrick Mahomes will have to get used to using someone other than Tyreek Hill to throw the long ball to as the Kansas City Chiefs dealt him to the Miami Dolphins in the offseason.

 

The NFL preseason should not get anyone too excited for anything. Most of the biggest names are sitting out or playing such limited reps that their impact on the game is barely felt. When first-team players are on the field, they certainly are not going full speed yet, and are doing their best to stay injury free. The stadiums are not at total capacity either, making the crowd noise a fraction of a factor of what will come during the regular season.

It’s almost become the tradition of the NFL for rookies to get stuck paying for the tab when teammates dine out together at dinner.

With one of the most talented rosters in the National Football League, there aren’t exactly a lot of clearly open roster spots on the Kansas City Chiefs to go around for hopeful players in the preseason despite the abundance of potential contributors. Such is life for an annual contender and the guys who hope to make the roster. That said, there are a handful of guys who have placed extra pressure on general manager Brett Veach to include them in the mix when all is said and done at the end of August.
