How Patrick Mahomes handled the question about the father’s arrest
Speaking to the media on opening night of Super Bowl LVIII on Monday, Patrick Mahomes wasn’t interested in discussing an off-field matter his family is dealing with.
The night before the Chiefs left Kansas City for Las Vegas, Mahomes’ father was arrested in Texas on suspicion of drunken driving. It was the third such arrest for Patrick Mahomes Sr., who was ordered to serve 40 days in jail on weekends for one of the violations in 2018. If convicted, the 54-year-old could serve between two and ten years. to prison under Texas state law.
The Chiefs quarterback told reporters Monday that his father is “doing well,” but offered no additional comment on the situation.
“It’s a family thing, so I’ll leave it up to the family,” Mahomes told reporters, per Pro Football Talk. “That’s all I have to say.”
It remains to be seen whether Mahomes Sr., who was released from the Smith County Jail Sunday morning after posting $10,000 bond, will be at Allegiant Stadium Sunday night to watch the Chiefs take on the 49ers in San Francisco. A Kansas City victory would mark the third Super Bowl triumph of the young Mahomes’ NFL career.
